Interview with Nadia Kim
Nadia: A few years ago my mother and Aunt introduced me to a girl who was the same age as me. After about a year of getting to know her I realized we lived parallel lives. Everything that happened to me happened to her literally. When I tore my ankle and needed surgery six months later she broke the opposite ankle doing a different sport and had to be laid up just like I was. We are born a day apart and both have three kids. We were both trying for our third child at the same time and it ended up she had a boy born on my husbands birthday and my daughter was born a month before on her husbands birthday. There are many more examples I wont list them all. Her children's birth order is boy, girl, boy, and my children's birth order is girl, boy, girl. Six months after our third children were born we went on a cruise together. I had no idea just how much we were alike until spending a non-stop 8 days alone together. We think alike, share the same feelings, thoughts. We even act the same way when we are both tired. It's crazy. But on that cruise was when the muse hit me to write Reflection.
Jennifer: Did you consider pursuing traditional publishing or did you go straight to self-publishing? Why?
Nadia: I considered both. The reason I ended up going with self-publishing is because I met a girl who knew a lot of the in's and outs and suggested I do both. That I would be more marketable to a traditional publisher if I had a fan base. So I opted to go that route.
Jennifer: What is your marketing plan for Reflection?
Nadia: I have been promoting the book through facebook and have set up a website with a blog. I have also been setting up blogging accounts so I can meet other bloggers. My hope is that I can offer them the book for free to read and if they like it post a review on their blog. I'm relying heavily on word of mouth and I make sure to tell anyone I meet when I am out about it. I also know a few people that run book clubs and have asked them to promote the book to their friends in their clubs.
Jennifer: What is your next project?
Nadia: I am in the process of revising my new book Love Curse. Its book one of a series. I'm not sure how many books it will end up being maybe two or three. I have a blurb about it on my website. http://nadiakim.com
Jennifer: I heard you read a book that inspired you to become an author? Which book was it?
Nadia: Since I was a child I have been writing. The first full length novel I read was Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice. That was when I knew I wanted to write books. What got me writing my first 50k word novel was a book about writing a novel in 30 days. A lady at work let me borrow it and once I read it I knew it was possible. I sat down every day and worked on the book and completed 50k words in 27 days. I was hooked after that.
Author Biography:
Nadia grew up in the suburbs of Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. Since childhood she has gravitated to writing fiction stories.
In college Nadia pursued a career as a Photojournalist. She had many articles and photographs published by the college newspaper but ended up working for the Federal Government. With feelings that something was missing she sat down and talked about her inner desires to a good friend. That was when she was introduced to a book that would change her life. She read the book and knew it was not impossible to have a career as an author. She sat down and wrote her first novel in 30 days. Though it was not one to hit the shelves it was the spring board.
Nadia is a devoted wife, and mother of three small children. In her spare time she keeps her children active in different activities, writing stories and playing softball.
