I am pleased to announce the newest release by D.M. Andrews,
a contemporary fantasy titled
Jack MacFadden and the Faerie Realm.
About: Since he was a young boy, Jack MacFadden's imaginary friend, Puck, has always been around, but now Jack's thirteen, and Puck's still shown no sign of leaving.
And, if that wasn't enough, Jack's also been targeted for assassination by a faerie death squad...
Jennifer: What inspired you to write Jack MacFadden and the Faerie Realm?
D.M. Andrews: I've always had an interest in the folklore of the British Isles, so it was quite easy for me to set it there. I wanted to try my hand at something shorter and in a first-person perspective. I've never written a story from that point of view before, or one at just 25,000 words. So it was a bit of an experiment. It was also a bit of a thank-you piece to some of my friends who'd helped spread the word about my first novel, The Serpent in the Glass.Jennifer: What age group is this book for and is it a series or a stand-alone book?
D.M. Andrews: It's written as a stand-alone book, but is certainly open to sequels. I intended the age group to be early Young Adult, but both middle-graders and adults would probably also enjoy it.
Jennifer: Describe your writing process.
D.M. Andrews: Yes, I must get one of those one day ;) I aimed at a chapter per day, but I think it probably worked out nearer to a chapter every week. I had an idea of what would happen at the end and the beginning, but pretty much took all the chapters in between as they came. I found writing in first person gave me a more defined way to move the story forward (i.e. it was all about Jack's feelings and perceptions).
Jennifer: What is your marketing plan for your books?
D.M. Andrews: Currently "The Serpent in the Glass" is undergoing a major re-edit. Once that is done I'm going to include a link/ad for Jack MacFadden at the back, and then promote either the latter or former (I've not decided yet) via KDP Select free promotion days. Other than "natural" growth, I've really found it the most productive way to make a book visible on Amazon; though it will be interesting to see how the new algorithms will affect the result.
Jennifer: What is your next project?
D.M. Andrews: The re-edit of The Serpent in the Glass by my editor, RJ Locksley, is about done. After I've reviewed and republished it I shall do some more promotion work and then move on to one of my other projects. I have a number on the go, though I really should finish the one that is the most complete (a YA fantasy). I'm also going to have to think seriously about a sequel to Serpent - or I shall start getting death threats! ;) Readers can keep an eye on my projects at http://www.writers-and-publishers.com
