Bibliocracy is an independent seller of ebooks. They do not require exclusivity. If you list your book at Bibliocracy, you can continue to list it at Amazon, Smashwords and anywhere you want. They offer a 60% royalty and you must have a free Paypal account to receive your income. You can set your price at $2.99 or higher. All funds are in US dollars.
Joining Bibliocracy, uploading your book and selling it is free. They require a Word file and they make it compatible with all ereaders. Authors can choose a 10% preview of the book to the customer and add an author photo. A book cover image is required. Unlike DriveThru Fiction, this seller lists non-fiction.
This site also promotes cover artists. Artists may sell their work here and enter it in contests. Authors can buy original cover art and own the exclusive image, or commission a particular artist to design a cover. Original cover art seems to range between $14.99 and $129.99. Editing services are available for authors.
The selection of books and art is small. It appears this site was established in 2011. I haven't been watching it long enough to tell if it's growing. What I like about it is that it's free and it's an opportunity to stand out in a small arena. If you are the number one author at this site, you can add that information to your Amazon site. Unless you are enrolled in KDP Select, you have nothing to lose by trying!
To Do: Check out Bibliocracy!
Thanks for posting about "bibliocracy," I'm a writer of Adult Paranormal Action-Romance, but new to it. My "Immortal Relations" (book 1) is on AMAZON & KINDLE and the sequal is almost done. I'll check out the bibliocracy thing, but as KDP says I must be exclusive with them, I'll have to check it out and wait. Where in North CA are you? I may go back to my H.S. reunion in Los Altos in Sept.
ReplyDeleteHi Vamp Writer,
DeleteYou can read my comment below about exclusivity. I used to live near Los Altos! Beautiful town!! Now I'm much farther north.
Thanks for reading!!
I'd love to know how you feel about Bibliocracy now that it's been a couple of months. Do you feel it has been worth having your book on another site? Has it helped to increase your visibility?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the answer...
Hi CL Parks,
DeleteI believe it's good for authors to publish everywhere. On principal, I don't agree with exclusivity, so I have never participated in KDP Select. 1/4 of my sales come from Smashwords. I am making some formatting changes to my text, so I haven't uploaded to bibliocracy yet. It is a small site, but it's good to build links to your book all over the web. It tells the search engines that your book is important, and it's one more avenue open to readers to find you.
Secondly, Apple's ipads and iphones may well become the preferred ereaders of the future--especially the iphone. My son's generation (teen) prefers to have one device. With an iphone, he can buy books, music, text, and make phone calls, and take pictures. If you are listed on Smashwords, you will be listed on itunes.
Yes, most of my sales come from Amazon, and I love Amazon, but how do I know that the buyers didn't see me somewhere else first and then go to Amazon to make their purchase?
Overall, my advice is always to be everywhere!
Good luck!
