Royalties are paid out monthly. If you sell exclusively at DriveThru Fiction (and I don't recommend that), the royalty is 70% and the site will promote your book for free. If your book is for sale elsewhere, the royalty is 65%.
Publisher accounts are free and manuscripts are uploaded usually in .pdf format. The text and cover art are expected to look professional. They review submitted works to ensure quality before offering the book for sale.
This is a good thing because shoppers trust sites that monitor the quality of their products. Amazon will let you publish a book in Pig Latin. Customers have learned to be extra careful about what they purchase. I like that there is at least one step in place to weed out inferior books.
I am holding this website in my back pocket for my YA book. I don't think it's worth listing The Pet Washer there. The site is genre heavy in YA, Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction.
The site handles transactions in US dollars, Euros, Canadian dollars, Pounds, Yen, Australian dollars and New Zealand dollars.
If you participate in Amazon's KDP Select, listing your book at DriveThru Fiction is not allowed. If you are a free agent, check it out! It offers yet another link to your book and exposure in a smaller marketplace. If you reach the "top" of their sales (where you are competing against hundreds of book rather than millions) then you can end up on their "Hottest Items" list. Sometimes it's better to be a big fish in a little pond.
To Do: Take a gander at DriveThru Fiction. Listing your book for sale costs you nothing and your odds of getting noticed are high. You are still free to list your book at Amazon, Smashwords etc.
