Meet The Horses Behind The Guardian Herd Series [Video]

Hi everyone! With the release of The Guardian Herd: STARFIRE fast approaching, I thought I'd share some real life horses that inspired two of the characters. (Video below)

These horses live with me at my house. Maddie is my horse, and Comet is the pony my daughter leases from her friend, Eva.
Maddie

Maddie is a sixteen-year old Peruvian Paso mare. She's had two babies, a filly named Promesa and a colt named Noche. Maddie's the lead mare at my ranch and horses tend not to question her natural authority. She's gentle to ride and super protective of Comet.

Maddie is the inspiration for the character Silvercloud. They are both lead mares, both protective, and both "no nonsense" type equines. However, they don't look alike. Silvercloud is gray with silver wings and Maddie is black.

Comet
Comet is smaller than Maddie, but older. She's a twenty-eight year old P.O.A. (Pony of the Americas) and she's had one baby, a colt named Meteor. She's also gentle to ride, but I'll tell you, if we don't give her clear instructions, she'll do what she wants and not what we want. Or she won't do anything at all. But when we take her to the beach or cross-country jumping--we hang on because Comet has a lot of go! No one believes she's twenty-eight.

Comet is the inspiration behind the character Morningleaf. They are both small feisty chestnut mares with flaxen manes and tails. They both have a wide white blaze, but Morningleaf has aqua feathers and Comet of course has no wings (except on the beach).

Here's a video I made for my publisher which introduces the horses!
