The Most Popular Twitter Hashtags for Writers

Hashtags make the big world of Twitter small. If you follow others on Twitter, then you probably receive hundreds of tweets per hour. Sometimes I receive a hundred or more in a minute. I can't keep up and I've stopped trying. Instead, I follow hashtags.

A hashtag begins with a #. Enter any of the hashtags below and follow the ones you like on a regular basis. You will soon recognize recurring names and meet others in the writing industry. Add to the conversation with your own meaningful and applicable tweets and links. Don't forget to hashtag your tweets so they show up in the applicable category.

A lot of professionals in the publishing industry watch these hashtags, so make sure you understand Twitter etiquette. (Here is an article by author Jeff Goins with 20 quick tips.) I can't stress enough how important this is if you want a career in this industry. Stay positive, re-tweet others, be helpful, and the Twitterverse will reward you.

Without further ado, here are the most popular Hashtags for writers and publishers.

  2. What about #ASMSG? I don't get this at all. Thought it was a cooking additive but so many writers seem to use it and the other day I came across a guy whose claim to fame is that he invented it. Is it really that significant? As a writer, should I use it?

  3. ASMSG is an author social networking support group--other than that, I don't know anything about them. They have 300ish members and I don't know if they charge a fee or not. One must apply--so if you're interested, ask a lot of questions and get references!! That's my advice. Good luck and thanks for reading!!
