In case you missed it, here it is!
The Guardian Herd #3 Coming to Stores 02/02/2016 Art by David McClellan |
The interesting thing about this cover is that I thought it would be the most difficult to draw. The scene pictured takes place in the Trap, which is a thick, dark forest. In my mind, the scene was quite busy and dim, but I really wanted a forest scene.
These are my exact notes to my editor regarding my vision for the cover:
"I think it would be cool to show Star posed on the ground. I see him posed protectively in the thick forest with bright rays of sunlight streaking down from above. It's late spring/early summer, so there can be little wild flowers and green moss and ferns, and pine trees. And a few pegasi could be standing behind him as though he's protecting them. Of course, I'm open to anything! All the covers have been just fantastic :)"
And from this simple description--look at what the artist came up with! Later Mr. McClellan told me that forests are one of his favorite landscapes to draw. Doesn't it show?
And who can tell me the names of the two flying pegasi? Anyone, anyone?
They are the fraternal twins, Echofrost and Bumblewind. It's thrilling to see my characters brought to life and in full color. They're as beautiful as I imagined them. (Meet the Guardian Herd characters HERE)
